I want to buy a Sony Bravia plasma TV (40″) in USA and want to carry it back to India. Is it allowed to do so? Or should I have to pay extra tax and duty?

The screen that shattered was the grey screen inside the tv not the outer screen. I can get another 42″ plasma from $1200 to $1500. Will the repairs be more than that.

The pixel only turns red when it need to turn to a skin tone or reddish color. It generates all other colors fine. How can I fix this?
